2015 Events Calendar

8th / 9th August                 Large Model Show on Elvington Airfield. This is NOT a YAM event. Some viewing of flying displays possible from Museum for the benefit of our visitors to enjoy. Vulcan XH558 display expected during afternoon of Sunday 9th.   

9th August                              Women’s Section Royal British Legion Memorial day. Service in Station Chapel at 2pm followed by wreath laying ceremony in Women’s Memorial Garden.

 31st August                         “Thunder Day“.  Live, on site aircraft engine runs featuring the WWI Eastchurch Kitten; WWI SE5a; WWII Douglas Dakota; post war De Havilland Devon; Blackburn Buccaneer XN974; Nimrod XV250 and Victor XL231. (Note: Previously billed as Rolling Thunder Day, but due to recent airfield restrictions for runway repairs, we are now unable to access the runway.)

6th September                     Allied Air Forces Memorial Day. International  Drumhead Commemmoration Service and Parade to be led by the Yorkshire Band of the Royal British Legion & Corps of Drums. Aircraft engine runs. Attendance by the Chief of the Air Staff and representatives of various Allied Nations. Parade Commences 14:30pm. Spitfire and Vulcan XH558 flypast displays.

13th September                  Ride of Honour. Charity motorcycle ride in support of the Allied Air Forces Memorial. 300+ riders expected.

4th October                         Thornes Independent Coaches Classic Bus Gathering.

8th November                    Remembrance Sunday. Services at the French Memorial, Elvington Village and at the YAM Station Chapel. 11am and 13:30pm respectively. Wreath Laying Ceremony in Memorial Garden.            

 

Note: Wherever possible, Main events will feature historic aircraft flypasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and / or private operators. These events may be charged at additional rates – (“Thunder Days”; Battlegroup North & Allied Air Forces Memorial Day: £10 Adult; £8 Concessions & £5 Children)

Occasional “anti-deterioration” engine runs will be scheduled as required. Some, but not all, live aircraft will be powered up for testing. See website News Pages / Twitter or Facebook for information.
