2015 Events Calendar
11th April “Rolling Thunder Day” – Fast jet taxy runs celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the arrival on Nimrod XV250. Propeller driven aircraft start ups and taxy runs.
9th / 10th May Battlegroup North. Annual gathering of Historic Military Vehicles, Wargaming Show and Living History Displays. Static engine starts; Artillery Display and other activities.
4th – 7th June RAF Museum Hendon’s “Collections Handling Tour. YAM is the first venue of this national tour offering visitors and school children the opportunity to see and handle WWI items from the RAF Museum’s collection.
7th June “Thunder Day”. On site jet and propeller driven aircraft runs. Featuring the WWI Eastchurch Kitten; WWI SE5a; WWII Douglas Dakota; post war De Havilland Devon; Blackburn Buccaneer; Nimrod XV250 and Victor XL231.
25th June Inspirations STEM Education Challenge event.
11th July Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club (Yorkshire Branch) Driving Day. 30 + Rolls Royce cars.
26th July “Golden Era” Vintage Motorcycle Run. Gathering of pre-1931 Vintage motorcycles with some entries over 100 years old!
2nd August “Thunder Day”. On site jet and propeller driven aircraft runs. Featuring the WWI Eastchurch Kitten; WWI SE5a; WWII Douglas Dakota; post war De Havilland Devon; Blackburn Buccaneer; Nimrod XV250 and Victor XL231.
31st August “Rolling Thunder Day”. Fast jet taxy runs and propeller driven aircraft starts. Featuring the WWI Eastchurch Kitten; WWI SE5a; WWII Douglas Dakota; post war De Havilland Devon; Blackburn Buccaneer; Nimrod XV250 and Victor XL231.
6th September Allied Forces Memorial Day. Annual Commemmoration Service (Drumhead) and Parade to be led by the Yorkshire Band of the Royal British Legion & Corps of Drums. Aircraft engine runs. Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hurricane and Spitfire flypast. Parade Commences 14:45pm.
4th October Thornes Independent Coaches Classic Bus Gathering.
8th November Remembrance Sunday. Services at the French Memorial, Elvington Village and at the YAM Station Chapel. 11am and 13:30pm respectively. Wreath Laying Ceremony in Memorial Garden.
Note: Wherever possible, Main events will feature historic aircraft flypasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and / or private operators. These events may be charged at additional rates – (“Thunder Days” & Battlegroup North.)
Occasional “anti-deterioration” engine runs will be scheduled as required. Some, but not all, live aircraft will be powered up for testing. See website News Pages / Twitter or Facebook for information.
