by Ian Richardson on March 30, 2012

We are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for our “Baedeker Raids” presentation, marking the 70th Anniversary of the York Blitz. This takes place on Saturday 28th April, at 13:00pm and the presentation is by Air Commodore Graham Pitchfork, YAM Vice President and celebrated Air Crew Association historian and author. The raids were carried out by the Luftwaffe, using the famous German Baedeker travel guide, to select historic cities to attack.

Only a limited number of tickets are available, priced at just £12 per person, including Museum admission, so don’t delay in booking your place. We can now announce that the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight are supporting this special day with the allocation of a flypast by the Dakota, which will provide a thrilling finale to the day.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about this significant event in York’s history and we are delighted that the event has also been seleceted as part of the “York 800″ Festival, celebrating this historic 800th anniversary of the the granting of the Freedom of the City of York to govern itself.

The lecture will provide an opportunity to learn of yet another wartime ”French connection” to the city – but if you want to know more, you will have to buy a ticket and come along!!

To book, please call the Museum Shop on 01904 608719.
